Auctions

We do not currently have any auctions running and will be taking the remainder of June, July and August off. However, we are actively seeking and buying single items/collections on a weekly basis and will return in September with a large selection of items for auction. If you have any items that you would like us to auction for you in our Autumn sales, please make contact.

In the meantime, if you would like to be added to our e-mailling list to receive auction notification emails, please contact us through our Contact page.

In September, our auctions will be listed here.

June Market Report

We were pleased to offer a diverse range of some 271 auctions in our June auction.

Our star lots included a rare 1946 Magic-Beano Book, which realised £335, an even rarer (albeit poor example) 1950 Oor Wullie Book which did well at £77 and a complete year of 1963 Beano comics - of interest to those not wanting to search for lots of individual issues - topping £280. We were delighted to offer a piece of rare David Law artwork in the form of the calamitous nincompoop Corporal Clott, from The Dandy comic. The piece, from 1970, was one of the last that Law drew and now resides in Singapore, the winning bidder happily paying the £495 starting price for such a rarity.
With the Summer finally here we were pleased to offer over 50 Summer and Holiday Specials from a wide range of comic titles including early Buster, Frankie Stein, Countdown, Valiant and (Smash, Pow and Wham). Highlights included the first four Buster Holiday Specials (1969-1972) which, between them, amassed an impressive £161. Frankie Stein (Ken Reid's creation from Wham! comic, in 1964) had his very own Holiday Special from the 1970s and late 70s issues, in high grade, averaged £20 each.
Our Beano and Dandy comic section continued its healthy run with a pair of rare 1941 issues which include interesting examples of war propaganda, helping the comics reach £64 and £44 respectively. Also found were several early Christmas and other special issues - despite being "out of season", the 1955 Christmas Beano comic realised a very healthy £37.
Number 1 issues are highly sought-after and key examples were Giggle (1967) - £19, Buzz (1973 - with free gift) - £26, Cor!! (1970) - £15, Hurricane (1964) - £13, Jag (1968) - £23, Pippin (1966) - £18, Solo (1967) - £48 and Valiant (1962) - £45.
Other interesting items included a selection of low grade Boys' World comics from Volume 1 (1963) - fought to a lowish £27, an advertising flyer for the #1 Lion comic (1952) at a strong £56 and a near complete year of 1952 Hotspur comics, in bound volume, contested to £67.
Watch this space for a similar, wide variety of British comic titles - #1 issues, Holiday Specials, annuals, comics and bound volumes - in the Autumn and Winter months.
